Day 1 (part 2) - Iceland

We made our way to the campsite and got all our things set up. No fuel for the stove yet. In everything that we had read used fuel containers can usually be found at camp sites. People end their trips and have a surplus that they just leave to the next campers. After talking a quick walk about the camp site and deciding it was for us we set up camp. The owner was not there at the time but said that where we had set up was fine, then charged us for the night. Reykjamörk Hveragerði Campsite - There were clean bathrooms and hot showers but we used the ones at the swimming pool. Almost every town in Iceland has a city pool, heated by geothermal heat. This pool was just up the street from our camp site. So we walked up there and it was 900ISK to swim. They asked us to take a shower with soap before we got in the pool. I went down to the women's locker room and put my stuff away, then headed into the shower. An older lady in a language i didn't understand started chatting me

Day 1 (part 1)- Iceland

November 14th 2018 Wednesday We left Saint Louis at 4pm on November 13th. I went to Nick's house to pick him up and take him to the gym so we could get a few things done. I had taken off of work that day but it was nice to finish up a few more things before we left. The money that I had saved from watching dogs had not transferred yet. So, I was understandably nervous about the whole thing. I spent a majority of my time that day trying to figure that out. Nick's mom picked us up from the gym they we went to go get Gabe. Gabe had decided to join us about a week before we left. Our original third person had backed out at the last minute. Gabe had agreed to take his spot, this was beneficial to us because we were able to split things three ways instead of two. Nick and I were able to piece together all of the gear for gabe that we though he would need. This allowed him to go without purchasing much of anything. Gabe s lucky that we worked at a place with so many Outdoorsy pe

Planning and Gear

I am still in the phase where I am reading as much as I can about what is in store for us. I have read some articles recently that flat our stated we probably wouldn't be able to get around the entire ring road. That is a little disheartening but really either way it will be an amazing trip. That's what I have to remember. I also threw out to Nick, next time we should go to iceland on his way home from New Zealand. That would put us there in March, the weather is more reliable. But that's for the next trip! Gear: Currently I have a Big Agnes Roxy Ann 15 degree bag. My best bet to add additional warmth will be a liner. Still deciding if I should just make a liner with my mom or purchase one. It seems like the liners that I have seen are jersey and fleece. I am pretty sure that mom and I can make that happen. Sleeping pad: Big Agnes as well the Insulated Air Core Ultra. Those two pieces fit together to keep you on top of your sleeping pad and comfortable. I have a tenancy

One way ticket to Iceland...

Just kidding, I got a return flight too. Nick is headed to New Zealand for the winter as he has been doing for the past few years. This year he decided to take the long way around the globe, flights were about the same with WOW Air's super cheap flights. I decided that a trip to was something I wanted to do. So I planned to go with! The cheapest round trip flight that I could find would make our Iceland trip around 15 days.... so I did it. Our plan on this trip is to do it as inexpensive as we can. Iceland Can be very expensive, so a good amount of planning will go a long way. Ideally we will have a couple other people on this trip with us. The key is finding people who are okay traveling the way we are planning on doing it. We will camp as much as we can, use a camp stove and cook most of our meals. It will be winter so I am mostly worried about being cold and having our tent blow right over in the wind. Update: We have a third person. Steveo will be joining us on this trip!

To the Land of Fire and Ice

Lucky us! my good friend Nick and I bought our tickets to Iceland. Hoping to find a couple more people to go with us on this epic adventure. We will be there November 13 through the 28th. Feel free to follow along with planning and the trip itself on this blog. Or, just see what we are up to on our social media pages. Let the research begin! I am excited to see Puffins, the Northern Lights, and maybe get caught in a snow storm or two! #adventure #Iceland #LandofFireandIce #Travel #HopeSister _______________________________________________________________________________ If you or your company are interested in supporting our endeavors, please reach out! OKie Dokie

It has been quite awhile since I last blogged. In the last 24 hours I got results back from the Dr. I go in for surgery on August 7th, my first surgery ever. Complete with an overnight stay in the hospital. Freaked.

Putting off a paper

So here I am, Monday morning and supposed to me working on my paper for my masters program while also tending to the annoyance that is this migraine. It is now 11:00 and I have gotten a little more than nothing done. I have done some other important things though such as read a riveting article on a long distance runner, and upload photos from my phone to my computer. I attached a picture of the landscape from my trip to oklahoma for the OSU 10k spring tune up. Just thought that all would enjoy that. I have been thinking about religion and how it fits into nature and life. Don't get me wrong, it fits in perfectly. There is a obvious tie between the two but I have always had a notion that all religion is somehow intertwined, we are under the assumption that "our religion" is the correct one. I feel that it is completely possible that we are all interpreting the same omnipotent being. Taking these camping trips and being out in nature has made me feel closer to God than I h
